Okay, so this is it. This is the year that I pull it together and make this business a go. Surely I can make as much designing and making knitwear for folks as I do working 5 hours a week at my LYS? The other (cheap) sis and I have some great ideas for small things that we can sell: baby wear, accessories, etc. While she's at home with the girls and I've got my teacher summers off we should really make a go of it, eh?
So, really...this time I think we can do it.

Antsy? Well, yes I am...
So, I've been waiting, waiting, waiting -- for nearly 2 months! -- to get my invitation to "Ravelry". Every knitter I know and respect has been on for months, most as beta folks, and they are raving about how wonderful it is. Folks are swapping stash photos, completed projects, works in progress, and generally sharing their fiber addiction. I want some!
This morning, when I went to check my place -- 1,040 away, whoo hooo -- I noticed that the directory for the list checker is "antsy" (www.ravelry.com/antsy/check) . Hee hee hee... I love that even as they are being deluged with invitation requests -- there are 10 thousand people behind me -- they have a sense of humor!

Socks!
Who knew? Why didn't someone tell me how fun they were? Okay, well maybe they did and I just thought to myself -- "crazy" -- 'cause who in their right mind would spend $20 and 2 weeks to make something you could buy at the store for $10...am I right?!
WRONG! Socks are addictive. And if Princess Mia's any indication, they are feel pretty awesome too. You can't imagine what a wonderment it was to get the "these are for me?" smile and "finish the second one mom...please!"
Once I reconnect with Blogger, I'll post a photo or two. I'd say they are pretty darn good for my first complete pair.
And maybe a sneak peek at a current work-in-progress for someone who's been spending a lot of time in her pjs and needs something pretty and comfy to lounge in. Don't tell her!

the birthday quilt
well, i started making a quilt for my husband,
when he was my boyfriend and before we were
parents...
when i found out i was pregnant, i thought about
making a baby quilt...
when i found out it was twins, i sacrificed
the progress i had made on his quilt
into a quilt for one of the girls,
with the intent of doing a second one...

so much for that idea!
luckily they're twins, they can share...
and he's my husband and
will have to wait until i have time again!
hahhhahhhahah

oh how i need a creative project
something fun, and easy that i can
finish after i start it...that will be easy
to pick up and put down between feedings and
diapering....ahhhhhhhhh...wish me luck!

little girls and slumber parties
for my niece's 7th birthday,
this past weekend,
my cheap sister,
decided to host a party
at the embassy suites hotel
and invite 14 little girls
from my niece's school to
the spa themed party.
holy mother...
first, to invite 14 girls to spend
the night is in and of itself, insane.
but then we also went swimming,
watched movies, slept, played,
we made lip gloss in different flavors,
we made soaps with different scents and
colors and sparkles
then we did about 140 little nails worth of
polishing and grooming -
between the three adults,
that was plenty of nails to paint, trust me.
whoa.
whoa.

note to self
i know it's not nice to be inspired
by the huge quantity of
low quality and unintesting things out there,
but this week,
i had the opportunity
to go to a Shecky's girls night out event
held in my native new york city
i was excited to go, i thought to myself,
"i love to shop, i hate to admit it, but i think
i know how and where to shop in new york and online,
how to go about finding just about anything
worth finding..."
(either just because i know
or because i've had an even wiser friends
show me their secrets)
"i am going to find an amazing
onslaught of both unbelievable bargains
all in my taste"
(LUCKY/Martha/Domino)
"and in my price range"
one word.
WRONG.
i was so appalled at the lack of
quality and diversity,
that as i walked around, i was beyond shock
each table i passed,
i was only partially filled with
terribly mediocre stuff.
i noticed that the items for sale were
not new or creative as i'd hoped,
nor were they great bargains...
horrible insult, expensive mediocrity
and with probably too much pride,
especially since i know for a fact that
my girlfriends (sister included) and myself
are more talented and capable of creating
better quality goodies with more interesting ideas
i thought
we have just too much talent, and heck,
with all these focused shopping dollars in that room,
we could have made a killing....
